Olivia Allen, 21, is an apprentice based in Trauma and Orthopaedics, taking an apprenticeship in Medical Administration Level 2, supported by Telford College.
Olivia says: “I was looking for jobs at the time and came across this apprenticeship within the NHS. I thought I’d give it a try as it would be a great opportunity to get paid while learning on the job and gaining a qualification and wide variety of experience.
“My day to day role includes dealing with mail, collecting, delivering and booking in patients’ notes, typing clinic letters and updating plans and spreadsheets.
“This apprenticeship is giving me the opportunity to start a career within the NHS. It is a great opportunity for anyone – you get to learn and study and get paid at the same time! You can learn from others with more experience and gain experience working on the job. It is a chance to meet new people and there is the opportunity to gain a job at the end.”
Rose Lambert is the Assistant Medical Secretary Admin Manager and helps to support apprenticeships. Rose says: “Being interviewed initially can be a daunting experience, but we help them prepare by letting them know what we are looking for from an apprentice. I’m really proud of our apprentices and we also use other colleagues as mentors to pass on their knowledge and encourage the apprentices to build their confidence.”
