As the Deputy General Manager Theatre Lead I am responsible for 36 theatres and over 400 members of staff. To continually improve our safety standards one of my priorities is ensuring that policies and procedures are followed. I am also part of the National Performance Advisory Group and a CQC Specialist Advisor.

I started my career as a Healthcare Assistant and trained as an Operating Department Practitioner in 1996 and have worked in various roles until joining Derby in April 2016.

We have a very good team ethic here in Derby that thrives on a collaborative approach. Our staff are empowered to make decisions and challenge ways of working if they can see an opportunity or a different way of doing things. I actively encourage staff to share ideas and to give them a go – it doesn’t always work out but at least we can say we’ve tried, analyse the results and learn from experience.

I have an open door policy and pride myself on being approachable and welcoming. I visit all theatres every week and enjoy spending time getting to know staff and hearing about new ideas.

We’re pleased to offer an environment that is nurturing and allows staff to develop. We have dedicated Professional Development Facilitators in Theatres who focus on training and developing our teams across all levels. We can also offer job rotations and extended roles to enable staff to experience different surgeries.

I believe everyone deserves a chance to develop and grow their career – I wouldn’t be where I am today without being given that same chance.

It’s an exciting time to join us in Derby and I hope to welcome you here in the near future!
