Mandy is studying for a Level 2 Diploma as a Clinical Healthcare Assistant (HCA) within General Theatre recovery and Orthopaedic recovery. Her apprenticeship is supported by Derby College.
Mandy said: “I chose an apprenticeship as I didn’t just want a job where I had to ‘make do’. My apprenticeship is fantastic as I’m developing my skills and being guided at the same time. I came from a childcare background and really wanted a career change, so when I saw the opportunity to complete this apprenticeship, I grabbed the opportunity with both hands.”
“I love my apprenticeship as I’m learning new things every day, and I’m supported by a great team in doing that. Completing an apprenticeship is great as it’s available for people of all ages and from all walks of life.”
“No two days are the same in my role and that is what makes it so interesting.”
“This apprenticeship has benefited me in so many ways, one of them being I am able to earn whilst I learn, which helps me provide for my family.”
Mandy started her apprenticeship in September 2016. She recently found out that she had been nominated for a National Apprentice Award. She said: “I was amazed to find out I’d been nominated; I cried when I found out! It’s so nice to feel appreciated in my role after such a short space of time.”
“I would recommend doing an apprenticeship to anyone that is interested as it gives you great experience as to what a career in healthcare is like. I really enjoy coming to work because of this apprenticeship.”
