I’m a Professional Development Facilitator for Urology Day Case, General Day Case and General Theatres. I’ve only recently started this role but I was an Operating Department Practitioner in the same theatres beforehand – I still work one day a week clinically to ensure I maintain my clinical practice.
Primarily my role is help facilitate learning for new staff to ensure they settle into their roles and feel supported. I’m also part of the safer surgery project and I get involved in updating policies for theatres helping to implement changes identified. Being a teaching hospital we have some fantastic resources to hand to support us!
I’d recommend Derby Teaching Hospitals as a place to work as it will provide you with a great opportunity to develop your career – you’ll be supported to grow in whatever direction you want to go.
I’ve been with the Trust since 2007 however my career at Derby started very differently to where I am now! Whilst working with the Medical Workforce Recruitment team I felt ready for a change and undertook an access course before heading back to university to train as an ODP. After I qualified 2012 I came back to Derby as an ODP and have been here since.
