I’m due to qualify as a nurse in September, after a completing my degree with the University of Nottingham. I’ve always wanted to be a nurse, and was first accepted on the course when I was 19. Life got in the way, which often happens, so I didn’t start the course.
I decided to reapply a few years later for a number of reasons, not least because I wanted to show my children that it’s never too late to follow your dreams. I wanted to make my family and friends proud.
The Medical Assessment Unit appealed to me as the place to start my career. I like fast-paced environments. I like never knowing what’s going to happen next and the fact you never know what’s going to come through the door. The patients you have at the start of the day are different to the patients you have at the end of the day, and I find that interesting and exciting.
The fact you get to nurse so many different patients with a huge range of conditions means I will gain lots of clinical skills.
I start in September and I’m really looking forward to getting stuck in.
