I’ve been working as a staff nurse on this ward since January, after spending a few months working on Ward 207, which is elective day case admissions. I feel like I have the chance to develop my skills here.
I like the quick turnaround of patients on this ward, as they’re not with us for very long. You see a real difference in such a short space of time. They come in and often they can’t mobilise or they find it very difficult, and within 6-12 hours after their surgery they’re on their feet. It helps them to get home more quickly, and they are likely to recover better.
I always knew I wanted to be a nurse. My uncle suffered brain damage following a car accident when he was 19, and seeing the care they gave him and the respect they earned as a result made me want to do their job and look after people who need my help.
I find it really rewarding to do this job. I love seeing the impact I can have on others, and seeing the massive change in patients through the care and treatment they receive here.
