Alan Mcarthur, one of the Trust’s Car Park Attendants, has gained NVQs in Customer Services and Business Admin, which are now delivered as part of our Apprentice programme.
Alan said: “My manager Melanie Ray encouraged me to go on a customer service course and her door was always open if I had any questions. I left school with no qualifications and since then I have always been keen to learn and progress. I would often sit in the garden and study – I had deadlines but I paced myself to do it all in my own time. You can read the workbook and do the work on paper or online.
“My work often brings me into contact with people who have disabilities and I’ve found the customer service module particularly useful for helping me to assist them. I would recommend it to others – it can be intense but it’s a great way to catch up and learn new skills.”
Alan has now applied for the team leader’s course.
