Our theatre teams work a 24/7 service to keep patients safe and have a real impact on their lives. Our last patient survey indicated that 93% would recommend us to a friend or family member.
We’re an innovative theatre service at the forefront of patient care, with a well-established enhanced recovery programme. We have 36 operating theatresat the Royal Derby Hospital, these include;
- Trauma and Orthopaedic Theatres– 8 operating theatres
Our orthopaedic team has one of the shortest lengths of stay in the country for primary hip & knee replacement. We cover a wide range of orthopaedic specialties, including complex arthroplasty revision surgery, major spinal surgery, arthroscopic ligament reconstruction, upper limb, hand, foot & ankle & trauma.
- Emergency and General Theatre – 9 operating theatres
Team members works across A&E resus, CT scan and intra & inter hospital transfers, ECT, interventional radiology, vascular, colorectal, upper GI, bariatric, ENT and an advanced maxillae- facial specialities
- Women’s and Children’s Theatre– 8 operating theatres
We work across many different specialities; gynaecology, paediatrics and CED, obstetric, breast surgery, MRI and rotation to the theatre night service
- Recovery- 4 vacancies
We are a very busy recovery department providing high standards of post-operative care. We cover trauma and orthopaedic theatre (10 recovery bays), general surgery and emergency theatres (14 recovery bays) and gynaecology and breast theatres (6 bays).
- Urology DCU – 2 operating theatres and various clinics
- Ophthalmic DCU
Our Opthalmic Day Case Unit has 3 specialist theatres dealing with the procedures required to improve sight and vision. A busy department who are looking at employing more surgeons therefore more registered staff.
- Hand DCU- 3 operating theatres
The hand theatre is a key part of the world renowned Pulvertaft Hand Unit attracting fellows from all corners of the globe. The department provides high quality, evidence based care to patients requiring the full range of Orthopaedic & Plastic hand surgery.
