Pharmacy

The Pharmacy Department at Derby Teaching Hospitals has a reputation for innovation and provides a comprehensive service and support to patients, wards and departments across the Trust from state-of-the-art facilities. Clinical excellence and compassionate care lie at the heart of the services we provide.
We employ multi-skilled staff including pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, assistant technical officers, administrative teams, analysts and nursing staff. We also support training and education to both pre-registration trainee pharmacists and technicians.
Our main dispensary provides outpatient and daycase medicines as well as medicines for inpatients and dispensing for patients due to be discharged. The dispensary includes a dispensing robot with facilities for labelling to help ensure the safe, efficient dispensing and management of medicines.
The main hospital pharmacy at the Royal Derby Hospital (situated on Level 1, near to the Children’s Hospital), provides medicines for outpatients, day case patients and inpatients for their stay in hospital and to take home after discharge.

Every month, on average, the Pharmacy department…

  • dispense over 35,000 items
  • complete over 2,800 medicines reconciliations following admission to hospital
  • ensure the safe and efficient dispensing of over 1,900 discharge prescriptions
“The support within the staff team is second to none and the opportunity for career progression and experiences that cannot be obtained elsewhere make it an ideal learning environment.”
